Siemens Process Automation & Control Engineering User Group
Siemens Process Automation & Control Engineering User Group (SPACE UG) is a GB&I network of Siemens users who regularly meet to discuss and exchange best practice information with each other and also with Siemens senior management.
The aim of the User Group is to provide a link between ourselves as the vendor and our users, enabling the opportunity for direct feedback into the development path of the platform.
The group includes representatives from all of the main GB&I Process Industry sectors of Chemical, Food & Beverage, Glass, Pharmaceutical, Power and Oil & Gas.
The highlight of the User Group calendar is an annual 2-day conference providing a unique opportunity to take part in an event bringing together some of the most highly respected figures from the Process Industries, alongside End Users and Siemens to provide the attendees with a wealth of insight and knowledge rarely seen in a 2-day event.
The User Group is chaired by Brian Lawson, Head of Process Manufacture at the Process Manufacturing Centre (PMC) at Kirklees College.
Brian has an extensive background and knowledge of the Process Industries with a career in the Pharmaceutical sector working for a number of major manufacturers including Smith and Nephew, Glaxo SmithKline, and most recently Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories in Mirfield, before taking a change in direction to lead the creation and operation of the PMC. The PMC is a specialist training facility focused on the development of resource and competence in the process sector.
This year has seen the transition of Chair for SPACE UG from John Williams who has overseen the growth of the user group conference year on year. I now take over the responsibility to continue to build on the good work of recent years and to assist in the establishment of our ‘User Advisory Board’.
The objective of The Board is to provide direction but also champion engagement within the SPACE User Group.
What does this mean?
In short, myself and The Board will start to build on the existing conference activities to establish channels of communication to engage the ‘user community’.
The Advisory Board will be focused on:
• Engaging with and providing the voice for the User Group community
• Influencing Siemens with respect to the allocation of support
• Providing recommendations and approving decisions on behalf of the users
This is an opportunity to encourage a more engaged user group to create a sustainable forum which has a voice that is heard by Siemens.
What should you expect?
As far as the conference is concerned, I can confirm it’s business as usual, with an emphasis on getting more users to contribute to the event. I will take the opportunity at the conference to update you on the plans for the Advisory Board and how we will reach out to all users to establish communications and engage with you to enhance the activities at the conference.
The User Advisory Board provides the link between Siemens and our users. The User Advisory Board is made up of key SIMATIC PCS 7 users from the Chemical, Food & Beverage, Glass, Oil & Gas and Utilities sectors.
