Class 332 & 360/2 - Heathrow Express
The 9 x 4-Car and 5 x 5-Car Class 332 Electric Multiple Units were Siemens first UK fleet built in partnership with CAF at Zaragoza in Spain. The fleet, which is operated by Heathrow Express, entered traffic in 1998 and runs between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport. The 5x5 car Desiro Class 360/2 EMUs were subsequently introduced to the Heathrow Connect service.
The fleet is maintained at the purpose built Old Oak Common train care depot at in Acton, London. Siemens is responsible for 24 hour a day, 365 days per year full maintenance service including overhaul and refurbishment and all aspects of train presentation including cleaning through a 19 year contract.
Heathrow Express isa dedicated high speed service between Central London and Heathrow Airport carrying more than 20,000 passengers a day on the 15 minute journey. The trains provide an 'airline' experience for passengers, with air conditioning, telephones and passenger information systems providing on-board news and entertainment. In 1999 the trains were also fitted with a 'checked luggage' compartment to enable passengers to check-in their luggage at Paddington Station.
