Class 185 - FirstTrans Pennine Express
The UK's first Desiro Diesel Multiple Unit entered commercial service in March 2006. Purpose built train care facilities in Manchester and York house a team providing full maintenance and cleaning services for the 51x3 car trains. All major repairs and mechanical work are undertaken at the Ardwick facility which can accommodate a total of eight train units at one time and includes a wheel lathe, train jacks and under floor bogie and engine drops.
The York facility was established for rapid turnaround of train servicing and cleaning “pit stop strategy” and planned ‘A’ and ‘B’ exam work. The facility is the focal point for East Coast Mainline services and also controls Scarborough, Cleethorpes, Hull and Newcastle outstations.
